Joseph G Berry
Developer, Researcher, and Machine Learning Engineer
Berkeley, California
I am currently pursuing an M.S. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley. My academic interests blend machine learning, computer security, operating systems, and large-scale data systems, with coursework spanning deep learning, ML fundamentals, and systems architecture.
My experiences range from academic research and engineering roles to military systems administration. I served in the USMC as a Systems Administrator and left with the rank of Sergeant. I worked at the Naval Information Warfare Center - Pacific (NIWC-PAC) before leaving to pursue my Bachelor’s in EECS at UC Berkeley. My work at Berkeley includes an internship at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab where I created a data portal and tool for electron microscopy analysis and as a researcher for Squishy Robotics, training ML models on a multi-modal dataset of methan leaking oil and gas equipment.
Today I focus on AI agents, multi-modal architectures, and cloud-native engineering using tools like PyTorch, Docker, GCP, FastAPI, and React. I enjoy turning complex technical requirements into practical, production-ready systems that bridge hardware, software, and user workflows.
Outside of work and study, I stay curious about AI agent collaboration, large-scale data pipelines, and secure distributed systems. I read about breakthroughs in ML and speculation about where the industry is heading.
